Slow travel—often on foot—is a way to observe things more carefully and to talk and listen more openly. Here’s why this lecture has been designed as an itinerant “slow travel school”. Along the route, the two lecturers will address the topic of slow, in-depth, sustainable and responsible travel, examined in the company of children and sometimes donkeys. The focus will be the idea of travel as a way to meet ourselves—the strangers who inhabit our minds and our rooms—but also to meet strangers. Those we come across along the roads of the world may be kind and hospitable or hostile and fierce, but we should always remember that everyone is always a stranger to other people. Dialogue will also be discussed as a writing technique as well as the essential form of relating to others. This hour-and-a-half walk is suitable for all, and we recommend you bring a pencil and notepad!

Andrea Bocconi divides his time between psychotherapy and writing. He is a writing professor at the ‘School of Travel’. His books published by Guanda include: Viaggiare e non partire (2002), Il giro del mondo in aspettativa.
