A geneticist and an anthropologist discuss the human evolutionary processes, tracing parallel pathways between our “natural” being and our “cultural” being.

The long journey of human beings, their constant migrations, their encounters and exchanges have resulted in such a genetic mix that makes it impossible to classify them into biologically defined groups. On cultural level, these same exchanges and resettlements have also given rise to beings that are “multicultural”, albeit to different extents.

However, since history has shown we have often been and continue to be the victims of constructed identities that search for and evoke notions of purity (and we all know where the search for purity led us), it is important to start thinking that there is no such thing as pure races or cultures.
